Here’s a film that I regrettably missed in theaters. It was not receiving the biggest push, but I have heard nothing but great things and now Beyond the Lights is up for an Academy Award for one of its songs. This drama/musical stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who has had a breakout year between this film and Belle, and Nate Parker, in a film that brings to ambitious people together, though one is more damaged than the other. The film also stars Minnie Driver and Danny Glover in what is a supposedly a strong drama that I am excited to check out. Learn more about this film’s February 24th Blu-ray release by continuing on with this post.
Beyond the Lights
Noni (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is the music world’s latest superstar, but the pressures of fame have her on the edge…until she meets Kaz (Nate Parker), a handsome young cop with political ambitions who’s been assigned to protect her. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of Noni’s Mother (Oscar® Nominee Minnie Driver*) and Kaz’s father (Danny Glover). But Kaz’s love might be the missing piece that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.

The critically acclaimed film was also recently nominated for an Academy Award®for Best Original Song “Grateful” By Diane Warren.
